‘They Wished I Become a Target’ – Jide Awobona Responds to Backlash Over Insecurity Video
Jide Awobona revealed he removed his video on Nigeria’s insecurity after receiving over a million harsh comments, some even wishing he became a victim himself. He said he was emotional and vulnerable, and urged Nigerians to show kindness, reminding everyone processes pain differently. The actor highlighted his past posts on the kidnapped children and teachers in Oyo State and shared that he’s had personal brushes with crime. He stressed that public figures are human too, capable of smiling, grieving, and continuing their lives even amid national challenges. On Children’s Day, several celebrities—including Ruth Kadiri, Paul Okoye, Mercy Eke and others—expressed heartbreak over the abduction of 46 children in Oyo State. Fellow actors Lateef Adedimeji and Kunle Remi also called on authorities to act and urged Nigerians not to grow numb to tragedy.
