1 / 2

The Federal Government recently approved the establishment of a national aircraft leasing company to strengthen domestic airlines’ access to modern fleets. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo led a Nigerian delegation to France. They toured Airbus assembly facilities in Toulouse and Marseille and explored collaboration on narrow-body, wide-body and helicopter programmes. Agreements were reached on capacity development, student exchanges with Airbus and ENAC, and a sovereign-guarantee framework enabling Nigerian carriers to acquire new jets. Ibom Air and Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management will benefit from the partnership. Officials praised the move as a major shift in aircraft financing and capacity building for Nigeria’s aviation sector. Airbus signalled interest in expanding investments in Nigeria and West Africa.
