Katherine “Kate” Spade was born on December 24, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri. She earned a journalism degree in 1985 before finding her true passion in fashion alongside her husband, Andy Spade. In 1993, Kate and Andy co-founded Kate Spade New York. Their stylish yet practical handbags quickly gained popularity, leading to a SoHo boutique in 1996 and an expanded line of accessories, home goods, and fragrances. Over her career, Spade won multiple design awards and was named one of the Most Creative People in Business by Fast Company. Spade’s influence reshaped accessible luxury.
