NYCN Demands Suspension of Works Minister Umahi Over Mary Habila’s Death

NYCN Demands Suspension of Works Minister Umahi Over Mary Habila’s Death

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria has urged the suspension of Minister of Works Dave Umahi following the death of 26-year-old physiotherapist Mary Habila. They say his removal will allow an independent, transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her passing. In a statement, NYCN called on the Nigeria Police Force to carry out a thorough inquiry and order an independent autopsy to establish the cause of death. The council stressed that the probe must be impartial to build public confidence. NYCN warned that if the government does not take concrete steps within seven days, it will mobilise peaceful nationwide protests. They insist anyone found culpable after due process must be held accountable under the law. At the time of the statement, the police had not announced any findings. Senator Umahi has previously supported an autopsy to clarify what happened.
