Dino Melaye Criticizes Switch from Mercedes S-Class to The Beast for Nigeria’s President

In a recent podcast interview, Dino Melaye slammed the decision to use a heavily armored limousine known as The Beast for Nigeria’s president. He argued that this move departs from a long-standing tradition and raises serious questions about government spending. Melaye recalled that from Tafawa Balewa and Aguiyi Ironsi through to Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerian heads of state relied on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class for official duties. He noted that The Beast, similar to the American president’s car, costs over nine times more than an S-Class. He challenged whether such a steep increase in expenditure is justified given Nigeria’s economic challenges. Melaye urged greater fiscal accountability in presidential protocol and security arrangements.

If spending is the concern, a transparent budget breakdown on vehicle procurement would help citizens understand the real expenses involved.
