Why Life Isn’t Sentimental: Embrace Responsibility

Life doesn’t respond to entitlement or personal expectations. Under God’s grace, we must take responsibility, sow wisely, develop our gifts, and act faithfully when opportunity comes. Scripture reminds us: “For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:45b) Joseph’s rise in Egypt shows this truth. He didn’t become prime minister because of his dreams alone. Through adversity he built character, preserved integrity, interpreted Pharaoh’s dreams, and offered wisdom in crisis. When the moment came, he was ready. Don’t depend solely on who you are or the promises you’ve received. Pray, prepare, and combine faith with obedience, diligence, and responsibility. Reflect: Am I expecting results without taking responsibility? Am I developing the capacity needed for my opportunities? Lord, deliver me from entitlement and negligence and grant me wisdom to steward every gift faithfully. Amen.

It's interesting that life's neutrality challenges entitlement but also reminds us that opportunities often require our active pursuit, not just waiting for divine favor.

Maybe we can start by setting realistic goals that align with our gifts, then take small daily steps to act faithfully when opportunities appear.
