Niger Police Intercept Cable Vandals on Expressway, Foil Armed Robbery in Minna
The Niger State Police Command has arrested three suspects in possession of cut-to-size armoured cables along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway on April 14. A patrol team from Maje Division stopped an ash-coloured Volkswagen and found the cables, which are believed to belong to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company. Two handsaws, a hammer and a chisel were recovered as exhibits. During questioning, one suspect admitted the cables were stolen from Abuja’s Central Area with an accomplice. They planned to sell the items in Suleja. Investigations are ongoing and the suspects will face prosecution. In a separate incident on April 19, officers from Tudun-Wada Division thwarted a robbery in Sauka-Kahuta, Minna. A gang of six armed men stole two mobile phones but fled after the occupant fought back, injuring one of them. Police recovered a locally made pistol, a cutlass and other items, and are hunting for the remaining culprits.
