Mel Gibson Teases Two-Part Sequel 'The Resurrection of the Christ'

Mel Gibson Teases Two-Part Sequel 'The Resurrection of the Christ'

Filmmaker Mel Gibson has revealed the first images from his long-awaited two-part follow-up to 2004’s The Passion of the Christ. The new films, titled The Resurrection of the Christ, will premiere on May 6, 2027 and May 25, 2028. Production spanned 134 days across Italian locations including Rome, Bari and Matera. Gibson described the project as a personal mission of over 20 years and praised his cast and crew for their dedication. Jaakko Ohtonen stars as Jesus, supported by Mariela Garriga, Pier Luigi Pasino and others. The sequel will use a non-linear narrative to explore the resurrection alongside historical, spiritual and otherworldly contexts.

Totally! The epic scale promises real goosebumps, and the Italian backdrops add that dreamy flair too.
