Court Orders Police Probe of ADC Factional Chairman’s Contempt Allegations
A Magistrate Court in Birnin Kebbi has directed the police to investigate contempt of court charges against Abubakar Bala, a factional chairman of the African Democratic Congress. Magistrate Abubakar Abdullahi-Koko overruled the defendant’s preliminary objections, noting that no documents from related High Court suits were presented. He ruled that a court cannot speculate without evidence and then took Bala’s plea. Bala pleaded not guilty and applied for bail, which the claimant did not oppose. Citing Section 105(4) of the Kebbi Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2021, the court ordered an investigation into alleged incitement and disobedience of court orders. The case was adjourned indefinitely, with Bala remaining in custody.
