Mboho President Urges Unity Over Ibom Deep Seaport, Rejects Community Ownership Claims
Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio President Ini-Abasi Ekanem says the proposed Ibom Deep Seaport is an economic asset for all Akwa Ibom people, not any single community, local government or political bloc. At his inauguration as the organisation’s 12th International President, Ekanem warned that ethnic and political divisions could undermine the project and allow competing ports outside the state to benefit. He called for transparent consultations, responsible public statements and unity among stakeholders. He said Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio would defend Ibibio rights through lawful means while remaining committed to peace and dialogue. The event also saw calls from government representatives, traditional leaders and other socio-cultural groups for stronger Ibibio unity and support for the seaport project.
