UN Secretary-General Urges Permanent African Seats on Security Council at Nairobi Summit

UN Secretary-General Urges Permanent African Seats on Security Council at Nairobi Summit

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has renewed his call for Africa to gain permanent representation on the United Nations Security Council. He described the continent’s absence from the Council’s top decision-making body as an “historic injustice” that requires correction. Guterres made this appeal during the opening of the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, where over 30 African heads of state gathered to discuss global governance, economic development and strategic partnerships. Co-hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron, the summit adopted the theme “Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth.” Discussions spanned multilateral reform, digital innovation, energy transition and Africa’s growing role in shaping international policy.
