My Sons’ DIY ‘Robots’ to Dodge Chores

My Sons’ DIY ‘Robots’ to Dodge Chores — 1 of 8
1 / 8

Midterm break arrived and my two boys are home for the holiday. My first son has completely clocked out on chores, and the second one has started copying him. Only my daughter still does her tasks perfectly, so I’ve been rewarding her with praise and small gifts. Today at lunchtime, they surprised me with homemade “robots” built from bottle caps and Ankara cloth. They claimed these contraptions will handle all the housework once they return to school. I nearly lost it when I saw them! I’ve been talking to the robots, but they’re not budging. For now, I’ve sent my boys back to actual chores until their engineering marvels learn some manners.

Have you asked them to explain what end result they actually want from these robots?

I see the innovation, but letting the boys skip chores just because they programmed gadgets might not teach responsibility.

Set a clear rotating chore chart and invite the boys to design it together, rewarding completed tasks equally each week.
