US Police Fatally Shoot Armed Kidnap Suspect to Rescue Toddler at Walmart
Two Omaha officers responded on April 14 to reports of a woman armed with a kitchen knife holding a 3-year-old boy in a shopping centre parking lot. Store cameras show she stole the knife inside and led the child and his guardian into the lot. Despite repeated orders to drop the weapon, she slashed the boy’s face. The officers fired their service weapons, fatally wounding the woman. The child was freed by his guardian and a bystander, then treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. Police later confirmed the officers were unaware she had been in their custody earlier that day under an insanity ruling. A joint investigation by state and county authorities will present its findings to a grand jury.
