Oba Akiolu Condemns Land Grabbing, Seeks Stronger Support for Traditional Rulers

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has urged the Lagos State Government to provide stronger institutional and logistical support for traditional rulers. He said better support would help them maintain peace, preserve cultural heritage and serve their communities effectively. Speaking at a prayer session marking his 23rd anniversary on the throne, Akiolu condemned traditional rulers and chiefs allegedly involved in land grabbing. He said the practice was against responsible leadership and harmful to society. The monarch reflected on his reign and credited its progress to God, as well as support received during his coronation. Lagos State Head of Service Bode Agoro also praised Akiolu’s discipline, knowledge of Lagos history and advocacy for the preservation of traditional values, including recognition for Isese Day.
