Barça Icon Gerard Piqué Slapped with ₦323M Insider Trading Fine
Former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué has been fined ₦323 million for insider trading. Spain’s financial regulator found he traded shares after receiving privileged information from a businessman. In January 2021, Piqué bought over 100,000 shares in Aspy Global Services days before news of a takeover broke. The stock jumped 20% on the announcement, earning him a significant profit. The regulator described his actions as a “very serious offence.” The businessman who tipped him off was also fined ₦161 million. Piqué can appeal the penalty at the National High Court. He retired from football in 2022 after winning multiple honours with Barcelona and Spain.
