Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Pay Taxes as Essential Civic Duty
President Bola Tinubu appealed to Nigerians to meet their tax obligations at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali. He warned that infrastructure, healthcare and education depend on timely tax payments. “You want good roads and well-equipped hospitals, but you don’t want to contribute through taxes,” he said, adding that development must be funded by all citizens. Tinubu defended his administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and unification of the foreign exchange market. He noted that unsustainable subsidy costs and non-operational refineries drained resources, leaving states unable to pay salaries. Early signs of stability in the naira and savings from reforms have, according to the president, begun to support student aid and social intervention programmes.
