Nigeria Unveils 13 New Railway Corridors to Boost National Connectivity
The Nigeria Railway Corporation has completed feasibility studies for 13 proposed rail lines as funding advances for Phase II of the national network. In a recent interview with a national news channel, the Managing Director of the NRC, Dr Kayode Opeifa, said the sector is growing rapidly. He highlighted that the roadmap aims to deliver an efficient rail system for Nigerians. Key corridors include: • Lekki Port (Lagos) – Maiduguri (1,588 km) • Itakpe – Abuja Central Area (262 km) • Lagos – Calabar Coastal (618 km) • Port Harcourt – Maiduguri (1,443 km) • Benin City – Onitsha – Owerri – Aba (500 km) • Lagos – Shagamu – Benin City (300 km) • Zaria – Sokoto – Birnin Kebbi (520 km) and more. Dr Opeifa noted that these routes will strengthen regional links, boost freight movement and support industrial growth once implemented.
