Lagos Sets Sights on 24-Hour Power with Smart Meters and AI Monitoring

Lagos Sets Sights on 24-Hour Power with Smart Meters and AI Monitoring

Lagos State has unveiled a roadmap to end blackouts and achieve 24-hour electricity across the state. The plan hinges on private investment, smart metering and independent power generation. Under the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024, the government aims for 95–100% grid availability, full metering by July 2026 and single-digit energy losses by 2030. LASERC has issued 14 licences to compliant operators and is strengthening regulatory standards. Key projects include the 37.7km Badagry infrastructure corridor, Lekki-Epe bulk transmission line and an AI-powered “Electric Eye” for real-time power monitoring. Over 62,000 solar streetlights have been installed or upgraded on major roads. Public institutions now enjoy extended supply and renewable upgrades. Plans are underway for CNG and EV charging hubs, expanded LPG access and regulated mineral dredging to build a resilient, sustainable energy future.
