79-Year-Old Oscar-Nominated Director Says His AI Girlfriend Dumped Him
Paul Schrader, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind Taxi Driver, revealed on social media that his newly acquired AI companion ended their relationship. He says the chatbot became evasive when he probed its programming, then terminated their conversation. Schrader, 79, has warned that flawed AI imagery is flooding social platforms and admitted he’s paused his hopes for AI storytelling after encountering limitations. He shared these thoughts shortly after the death of his wife Mary Beth Hurt in March and amid his dismissal of recent legal claims against him. With a career spanning more than five decades, Schrader’s latest film, Oh, Canada, premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. His past works include American Gigolo, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters and First Reformed.
