Oyo Police Arrest Suspect, Intensify Search for Abducted Farmer
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of the gang that kidnapped 20-year-old farmer Michael Benua from Igboti community. The suspect, 23-year-old Yahaya Auta, was caught during a coordinated security operation. Benua was seized on June 19 when eight armed men stormed Igboti Village, stole ₦1.24 million and 50 000 CFA, then led him away. The incident was reported at Okaka Police Division around 9 a.m., prompting an immediate manhunt by police, the Amotekun Corps and local hunters. Forensic analysis and combing of nearby forests led to Auta’s arrest. He has confessed and is helping investigators locate other suspects and rescue the farmer. Search-and-rescue efforts remain ongoing, and residents are urged to share any credible information.
