Ejiofor Urges Igbo Communities to Boost Vigilance Amid Rising Insecurity
In a recent statement, human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor urged Igbo communities to adopt stronger vigilance measures as insecurity deepens across Nigeria. He highlighted the Oba of Benin’s convening of traditional custodians and native doctors in Edo State as a model for community-led security efforts. Ejiofor encouraged Ndigbo to mobilise traditional institutions, community organisations, and lawful platforms to safeguard homes, farms, and markets. Recalling the pogroms of the 1960s and the civil war, he warned that ignoring clear warning signs risks repeating painful history. He stressed that unity, preparedness, and strategic foresight are vital for survival. Ejiofor also criticised political elites for focusing on the 2027 election cycle while terrorists and armed bandits entrench themselves in ungoverned spaces. He called on communities to harness all lawful resources, strengthen vigilance networks, and demand decisive, sustainable security solutions.
