MTN Nigeria Remits N878.7bn in Taxes as Revenue and Profits Surge
As part of Nigeria’s drive to boost non-oil revenue, MTN Nigeria paid N878.7bn in taxes, levies and duties in its 2025 financial year, a 15 per cent rise from 2024. This follows payments of N543.9bn in 2023 and N764bn in 2024, reflecting a profit after tax of N1.11tn and a 54.8 per cent jump in total revenue to N5.20tn. The payments covered company income tax, VAT, spectrum fees, import duties, NCC levies and contributions under infrastructure tax credit schemes. MTN also committed N202.8bn to reconstruct the 110km Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and secured additional credits to expand telecoms infrastructure in underserved areas. The report highlights a growing local footprint, with 62 per cent of procurement spent on Nigerian suppliers. MTN now operates 2,087 base stations, serves 85.4 million mobile subscribers, and supports 51.1 million active data users. The company also renewed its 800MHz licence until 2034.
