‘Good Group’ Awaits, But Super Eagles Must Win All AFCON 2027 Qualifiers – Akuneto

Chuks Akuneto, Nigeria-born coach of Manchester City’s U-17 side, says the Super Eagles have no margin for error in their 2027 AFCON qualifiers despite landing in a “good group” with Madagascar, Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau. He warns there are no minnows in modern football and insists only victories will guarantee Nigeria a spot in the finals. Recalling Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after a slow start in the early rounds, Akuneto urges the senior team to approach every fixture with seriousness and determination to avoid a repeat of past disappointments. AFCON 2027 will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, marking the tournament’s first summer edition.
