Lagos Government Demands Approval Before Installing Solar Panels on Public Housing

Lagos Government Demands Approval Before Installing Solar Panels on Public Housing

Lagos State’s Ministry of Housing has reminded residents of government-owned estates to obtain formal approval before fitting solar panels. The directive was issued by Abdulhafis Toriola, the Permanent Secretary, after a resident questioned the rule during an inspection at the Millennium Housing Estate in Ibeshe. Toriola noted that both the Letter of Allocation and the Allottees Guide require approval for any structural alterations, including solar panel installations. He explained the move was prompted by recent incidents of leaking roofs and fire outbreaks. The new guidelines cover approved materials, panel arrangements and installer qualifications to protect the building and its occupants.
