Court Revokes Sowore’s Bail, Bench Warrant Issued After Absence
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the arrest of AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore after he failed to appear at his cybercrime trial. He was due to open his defence but had informed the court by letter that he travelled to Lagos to seek new legal representation following his lawyers’ withdrawal. During the resumed hearing, counsel for the DSS applied for his immediate arrest. Justice Mohammed Umar revoked his bail and issued a bench warrant. Sowore, who had accused the judge of bias, opted to represent himself temporarily. The trial, which began in December 2025, centers on alleged cyberstalking under the amended Cybercrimes Act. Prosecutors say he posted inflammatory comments about President Tinubu on social media, threatening public order. Exhibits include printouts of the posts and official DSS correspondence. The case is adjourned for continuation.
