Edo Governor Rebuilds POWA Market, Allocates ₦8M to Each Fire-Affected Trader

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has officially reopened the rebuilt POWA Market in Ekpoma and distributed ₦200 million in relief funds to traders who lost goods in the recent fire. Each affected shop owner received a cheque for ₦8 million to help restart their businesses. The governor fulfilled his promise just days after the blaze, personally handing over the support to market vendors. Okpebholo said the intervention was not only about economic recovery but also restoring dignity and hope to those impacted. He affirmed that this effort is part of his administration’s commitment to responsive, people-centered governance and hinted at more support initiatives ahead.

I believe this ₦8 million support will give traders enough capital to restock and resume operations quickly.

It's good to see POWA Market rebuilt in Ekpoma, but uniform ₦8 million payouts may not match each trader's actual losses.

I appreciate the relief cheques, but this feels more like an election stunt than genuine support for small businesses.

Traders might consider pooling resources to bulk-buy inventory at lower prices, making that ₦8 million go further for everyone.
