Grammy-Nominated Baritone Jubilant Sykes’ Son Pleads Not Guilty to Murder Charge
Micah Sykes, the 31-year-old son of Grammy-nominated baritone Jubilant Sykes, has pleaded not guilty to murder over his father’s death in Santa Monica, California, in December 2025. Prosecutors allege that Micah used a deadly weapon and caused great bodily injury to his 71-year-old father, who was considered a vulnerable older victim. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, finding multiple stab wounds and blunt-force injuries. Two suspected weapons, including a knife and a dumbbell, were reportedly recovered at the home. Authorities say Sykes’s wife witnessed part of the attack after hearing him call for emergency help. Micah was arrested and is being held on $2 million bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 2. Jubilant Sykes was a respected opera singer who performed at major venues worldwide and collaborated with artists including Julie Andrews, Josh Groban, Carlos Santana and Brian Wilson.
