FG Uncovers Vast Platinum, Lithium and Rare Earth Deposits in Kaduna

The Federal Government has confirmed a major polymetallic mineral province in Kaduna State, hosting platinum group metals, gold, nickel, copper, lithium and rare earth elements. Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake announced the discovery at the African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit in Abuja. The find was verified by the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency in collaboration with a private mining firm. Described as one of the most significant developments in Nigeria’s mining industry, the discovery supports the government’s shift from raw exports to local processing and value addition. Over 3,000 dormant mineral titles have been revoked to ensure licences are held by operators capable of effective development. Investors have committed billions of dollars towards lithium refineries and an iron-to-steel project. Annual mining revenue jumped from ₦6 billion before 2023 to over ₦70 billion by end of 2025. The minister called for stronger regional cooperation to drive industrialisation across Africa.

I'm not convinced that this news alone will translate into real development unless policy and infrastructure keep pace with mining operations.

Local entrepreneurs in Kaduna might partner with mining firms to provide services, boosting small-business growth around those sites.
