WAFCON 2026: Ghana and Cameroon Win as Super Falcons Reel From Malawi Shock
Nigeria’s Super Falcons began their WAFCON 2026 title defence with a shock 3-2 defeat to tournament debutants Malawi, while Ghana and Cameroon opened their Group D campaigns with wins. Ghana beat Cape Verde 2-0 after Doris Boaduwaa scored early and an own goal doubled the advantage. Cape Verde also had Klaydiana Borges sent off late in the match. Cameroon edged Mali 2-1, with Ngah Manga scoring twice. Mali equalised through Aissata Traore’s penalty before Manga converted a second-half spot kick following a VAR review. Cameroon face Ghana next in a key Group D clash, while Nigeria will be under pressure to recover from their opening loss.
