US Counterterrorism Chief Joe Kent Quits, Denounces Iran War

Joe Kent, former director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, resigned in protest of the Iran war. In a letter on X, he said Iran posed no imminent threat to the US. His wife, Shannon Kent, was killed in a suicide bombing in Syria in 2019. He urged the president to reverse course and stop sending Americans into what he called an unwarranted war. A long-time Trump supporter, Kent claimed an echo chamber of high-ranking Israeli officials and influential US journalists spread misinformation. His departure is the highest-profile break from within the Trump administration over US-Israel actions in Iran.
