Governor Okpebholo Urges Nigerians to Defend Democracy with Unity and Vigilance
On Democracy Day, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo called on citizens to honour the sacrifices of past heroes by protecting Nigeria’s democratic institutions. He highlighted the 1993 election struggle led by Chief M.K.O. Abiola and warned that insecurity—from kidnapping to cult violence—threatens development. He stressed that true democracy must deliver security, justice and economic growth. Under his SHINE Agenda, the state has bolstered collaboration with security agencies and launched initiatives in health, education and youth empowerment. He urged all leaders and citizens to embrace accountability, peaceful engagement and respect for the rule of law as future elections loom.
