Senator Sabo Nakudu Leads Wave of Defections to ADC in Jigawa

Senator Sabo Nakudu Leads Wave of Defections to ADC in Jigawa

On Sunday in Dutse, Senator Sabo Nakudu and a host of supporters formally left the APC, PDP and NNPP to join the African Democratic Congress. Nakudu, who chaired the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), received his ADC membership card in a large gathering. He thanked supporters for their turnout and pledged to work for a greater Jigawa. Observers note he plans to contest the 2027 governorship on the ADC platform and has begun consultations with key stakeholders. Other defectors included Aminu Ringim, a three-time governorship hopeful under PDP and NNPP, and former lawmaker Ubale Shittu. ADC leaders described the move as a boost to the party’s growth in the state. Both PDP and APC spokespeople downplayed the defections, calling them self-serving and irrelevant. Efforts to get a response from the NNPP were unsuccessful.

It's odd that a former Senate Committee chair abruptly switches parties despite established ties in APC and PDP.

I'm not convinced ADC has the grassroots capacity to support such high-profile defectors effectively.

Local leaders should monitor ADC's policy proposals closely and engage community members to assess how this defection benefits Jigawa.
