After “Subsidy Is Gone”: Tinubu’s Broken Promises and Soaring WAEC Fees
When President Tinubu removed fuel subsidy two years ago, Nigerians were told the savings would fund education, health, infrastructure and support for ordinary citizens. Today, WAEC fees have nearly doubled, even as parents struggle to cover basic school expenses. We were promised a leaner government and better services. Instead, a new presidential jet emerged while states received larger allocations that never trickled down. Rural communities still fetch water by hand, pay high transport costs and see no tangible improvements. If subsidy removal was meant to free resources, where are the schools, hospitals and public buses we were promised? True reform requires refinery upgrades, genuine local government autonomy and secure farms. Otherwise, this policy just shifts hardship onto the poorest Nigerians.
