Facing Stock Variance Accusation at Work – Seeking Advice
I have worked for eight months with a distribution company in a Storekeeper capacity without formal assignment, letter of appointment, or signed job description. For the first six months, no stock count was conducted. When an inventory check finally took place, it was neither documented nor signed, and no variance figures were shared with me. I also never held the warehouse keys; the cashier did. A recent stock variance has been discovered and the Regional Manager is holding me responsible and intends to press charges. My concerns about the lack of formal role assignment and limited stock control were dismissed. I would appreciate guidance on my liability, the implications of not having a formal Storekeeper appointment, the effect of shared access to inventory, and how best to protect myself professionally and legally.
