Lagos Declares August 20 Work-Free Day for 2026 Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Celebration

Lagos State has declared Thursday, August 20, 2026, a work-free day for public servants to mark this year’s Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Day. Work will resume on Friday. The celebration is expected to draw more than three million traditional worshippers and cultural enthusiasts. Activities will include prayers, rituals, processions, drumming and cultural displays coordinated by the Association of African Traditional Religion Nigeria and Overseas. The state says Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Day celebrates Yoruba spirituality, history and indigenous heritage. Residents and participants have been urged to celebrate peacefully and respect all religious beliefs.
