ECOWAS Official Urges Community-Led Peacebuilding for Lasting Stability

ECOWAS Official Urges Community-Led Peacebuilding for Lasting Stability

Dr. Babatunde Tolu Afolabi, Director of Political Affairs at the ECOWAS Commission, stresses that real solutions to war and crisis must come from those most affected. He calls for inclusive dialogue that brings ordinary people, traditional authorities, youth groups and women to the negotiation table. He warns against relying solely on capital-based peace efforts and highlights the value of local traditions in resolving disputes. Afolabi urges international actors to support homegrown methods by sharing lessons without imposing foreign models. He argues that broad participation in peace processes reduces the risk of societies slipping back into conflict.
