Uniport VC’s Good Friday Call for Reflection and Renewal

Uniport VC’s Good Friday Call for Reflection and Renewal

On this Good Friday, we send heartfelt greetings to the Christian community on campus, our host communities, the people of Rivers State, and Nigerians nationwide. This solemn day recalls Christ’s sacrifice at Golgotha and the profound love, humility, and redemptive grace it conveys. By his wounds we are healed and inspired to live in courage, forgiveness, and truth. We urge everyone to rise above ritual observance and engage in deep personal reflection and moral introspection. In a world of division and uncertainty, Christ’s values—love for neighbour, compassion for the vulnerable, integrity in our actions, and hope amid adversity—remain our guide. As a university dedicated to knowledge, character, and service, let us embody these virtues in our teaching, research, and interactions. May this Good Friday renew our commitment to peace, unity, and purposeful living.

Absolutely. It's been a chance to focus inward, rebuild habits, and encourage friends to join in positive campus activities.

I appreciate the sentiment, but it feels more like a speech than a true invitation to self-reflection.

The VC's greetings highlight unity, yet these words alone might not tackle the real needs of students on campus.

Not everyone in Rivers State or the wider Nigerian community may connect with a religious message; some might prefer more inclusive themes of solidarity.

Consider organizing student-led reflection sessions or community service projects this weekend to honor Good Friday's call for humility and redemptive grace.
