When Preaching Becomes a Power Game: Factions in the Church Today
I recently attended a gathering of well-known men of God in Nigeria. As a delegate, I introduced myself and sat down to follow the meeting’s progress. To my dismay, the forum meant to promote unity quickly turned into a discussion about dissidents and how to deal with anyone opposing the organization. When a member fell into a coma and later died, a perceived dissident was even driven away for wanting to pray. This partisan mindset isn’t limited to senior ministers. I see young preachers and church members forming loyalty camps around their “spiritual fathers,” boasting about fan bases and promising to ‘die’ for their chosen leader. Jesus alone is the head of the church. We should focus on His Word, not personality cults. If we truly seek the kingdom, our loyalty belongs to Him, not any pastor, bishop or apostle.
