Army Identifies Dislodged Terrorists as Culprits in Oyo State School Kidnap
The Defence Headquarters says the recent abduction of pupils and teachers at Community High School in Ahoro-Esinle, Oriire LGA, Oyo State was carried out by members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad displaced by ongoing military operations. In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the military condemned reports that dismissed the attackers as mere criminals, calling such claims “misleading and mischievous.” It clarified that earlier comments on South-West security were meant to inform intelligence-based assessments and avoid public alarm. The military confirmed that several residents were killed and one teacher, Michael Oyedokun, lost his life after a video of the incident circulated online. Armed forces remain deployed with other security agencies to dismantle terrorist cells and restore stability, as Nigerians call for stronger measures against the spread of violent extremism beyond the North-East.
