Super Eagles Midfielder Usman Mohammed Rejoins Maccabi Bnei Reineh

Super Eagles Midfielder Usman Mohammed Rejoins Maccabi Bnei Reineh

Super Eagles midfielder Usman Mohammed has completed a free transfer back to Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Bnei Reineh on a two-year deal. He returns to the club after leaving Ironi Tiberias at the end of his previous contract. Mohammed made 63 league appearances and scored three goals during his first spell with Maccabi Bnei Reineh. His experience, composure on the ball and leadership in midfield will bolster Lior Reuven’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. The 32-year-old brings a well-travelled career to his former club, having featured for teams across Europe and Asia after leaving Taraba United. Internationally, he won Olympic bronze with Nigeria’s U-23s in 2016 and represented the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

What factors do you think influenced Mohammed's decision to return to Maccabi Bnei Reineh on a free transfer after 63 league appearances elsewhere?

Makes sense. He'd get more game time and comfort at a familiar club with trust and growth potential.

It's interesting that he left Ironi Tiberias and immediately returned to his former club without a transfer fee involved.

That's quite a move. Do you know what led to the decision to waive any fee for his return?

Free transfers sound convenient, but does this move signal stagnation rather than progress for Mohammed's career?

Mohammed should focus on adapting quickly to the team's tactics to secure regular starts and make the most of his two-year contract.
