Court Remands Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi Again After DPP Misses Advice Deadline

Court Remands Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi Again After DPP Misses Advice Deadline

On 4 June 2026, Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ogba ordered another 10-day remand for Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi. This followed the Directorate of Public Prosecutions’ failure to submit its legal advice as previously directed. Akanbi faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder, membership of an unlawful society, threat of violence, assault and related offences. His counsel applied for bail, but the court held off pending the DPP’s review of new evidence from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti. The DPP has received the duplicate case file but has yet to deliver its advice. The court adjourned to 16 June 2026 and directed that Akanbi remain in custody at SCID Panti until the DPP’s report arrives. Supporters from the Ajiran community gathered outside the court in solidarity. They allege the prosecution stems from a land dispute and vow to pursue justice through lawful avenues.

I'm not convinced this is just a simple oversight by the DPP; there might be deeper strategic delays at play.

Lawyers should track court orders closely and file motions immediately to prevent repeated remands due to administrative lapses.
