Pentagon Warns US Missile Shortages Could Curb Full-Scale War with Iran
A senior Pentagon official has warned that dwindling air-defence and long-range munition stockpiles could prevent the US from sustaining a full-scale war with Iran. This comes as more American warplanes and support aircraft are deployed to the Middle East amid talks of a wider conflict. Despite a ninth consecutive night of US strikes to punish Tehran for attacks that killed American soldiers, Iran has continued retaliatory barrages across the region, striking targets in Bahrain, Jordan and Syria. Both sides say diplomacy is ongoing, with mediators bringing proposals and Washington expressing readiness to negotiate. The US strikes followed the deaths of at least three service members identified from attacks on bases in Jordan and northern Iraq. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have threatened further action, warning that no oil or gas would pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz while US “aggression” continues.
