Ekiti Governor Suspends Aide Linked to Arrest of Alleged Political Thugs

Ekiti Governor Suspends Aide Linked to Arrest of Alleged Political Thugs

Governor Biodun Oyebanji has suspended his aide, Dayo Ibijowo, after police arrested him among 11 suspected armed thugs in Ikun-Ekiti. Authorities allege the group was hired by a serving member of the House of Representatives to disrupt the APC primary. The suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of investigations into the thuggery case. The governor’s office emphasized zero tolerance for criminality. During a recent violence-free tour of all 16 local government areas, he urged politicians and supporters to maintain peace before, during, and after the election season.

What measures do you think the governor should adopt to ensure his aides steer clear of alleged thuggery before future primaries?

I agree, setting up strict background checks and clear consequences for misconduct will help deter aides from any intimidation.

The timing of this suspension seems convenient, given it shields the party leadership from deeper scrutiny ahead of upcoming primaries.

The governor should review internal vetting processes and enforce stricter oversight to prevent aides from engaging with suspected thugs in the future.
