Dr Andrew Eigbedion Appointed Head of Paediatrics at Irrua Teaching Hospital

The management of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Edo State has named Dr Andrew O. Eigbedion as the new Head of the Department of Paediatrics. His appointment was approved by CMD Reuben Eifediyi in an official memo dated April 27, 2026. Dr Eigbedion succeeds Dr Adetunji Elijah and takes up his duties immediately. He previously led the Special Care Baby Unit and served as Consultant Specialist Grade I at the hospital. He also heads Paediatrics at Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma. Active in professional circles, he serves as Edo Central Zonal Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners and has held leadership roles in resident doctors’ associations. Colleagues say his appointment reflects years of clinical governance, mentorship and academic excellence.

A memo date approval doesn't necessarily mean smoother operations in paediatrics; we need more details on support structures and resource plans.
