1 / 3

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested Ismail Tunji Ibiyeye in connection with the machete killing of 42-year-old trader Olaitan Amere inside her home in Ajegunle, Ido-Ekiti. Relatives say a day before the fatal attack, suspects tried to set her house ablaze. A passerby raised the alarm after seeing flames, preventing the fire from spreading. On the night of Saturday, June 13, the attackers returned around 8pm and hacked Mrs Amere with machetes, inflicting multiple injuries. They then covered her body with clothes, poured petrol and fled. Family members traced her phone to her residence and found her lifeless in a pool of blood. The suspect, who worked at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Ido-Ekiti and was in a relationship with the victim, is now in custody. Police investigations are ongoing.
