Zamfara Joint Force Rescues Kidnapped INEC Official, Recovers Rustled Livestock
In a daring early morning operation on July 8, Zamfara State Police and military personnel rescued Aliyu Mohammed, an INEC staff member on NECO duty, who was kidnapped along the Gummi–Sokoto Road. Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that the combined team engaged bandits at about 2:45 a.m., forcing them to flee with significant casualties. All hostages were freed unhurt, and coordinated attacks in the area were thwarted. Authorities also recovered hundreds of rustled cattle and sheep, which have since been returned to their rightful owners. The breakthrough marks a crucial step in protecting election officials and restoring security on key routes.
