Obedience vs. Sacrifice: The Heart of True Worship

Obedience vs. Sacrifice: The Heart of True Worship

In our faith journey, many believers focus on outward acts like prayers, fasting, giving, and service. While these expressions are important, Scripture points to a deeper truth. In 1 Samuel 15:22, the prophet Samuel tells King Saul that obedience is better than sacrifice. Saul had spared the Amalekite king and kept the best livestock, claiming they were for worship. But his partial obedience showed that God values our willing submission above all else. Saul’s story reminds us that rituals cannot replace a heart that truly follows God’s commands. Genuine worship flows from obedience, not just from external offerings. Reflect on where you may be substituting ritual for obedience, and strive to honour God by following His instructions fully.
