Nigeria Confident It Can Stop Ebola Spread, Says NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says the country has the capacity to contain an Ebola outbreak if the virus enters Nigeria. Addressing a press briefing in Lagos, the NCDC Director confirmed that while no health system is ever 100% ready, Nigeria’s surveillance and response networks are strong enough to detect and stop transmission early. Risk levels have been rated high due to international travel and porous borders. As a result, surveillance has been intensified at all major entry points, including Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Enugu, and Port Harcourt airports. Travelers arriving from high-risk countries now face mandatory screening and health declaration checks. The goal is clear: prevent Ebola from entering the country in the first place.

I like the drive! More community drills and open updates definitely go add ginger confidence in our Ebola readiness.

It's true no health system is ever fully prepared, yet the NCDC seems quite sure of its capacity.

I appreciate the confidence, but relying solely on current capacity might leave gaps if things escalate unexpectedly.

Regular community drills and clear public guidelines could strengthen containment efforts before any Ebola case emerges.
