Akpoti-Uduaghan Appeals N1bn Judgment, Heads to Supreme Court
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has instructed her legal team to appeal the High Court’s order awarding ₦1 billion to former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello. She insists she cannot pay the sum and plans to take the case all the way to the Supreme Court. The senator alleges the lower court ignored key evidence from her lawyers. In 2022, the Kogi State Government accused her in national newspapers of sponsoring terrorism and orchestrating the Kuje Prison break and Owo Church massacre. Akpoti-Uduaghan denies the claims, saying she was abroad during those incidents and had no connection to the accused figure, Safiyu. She claims Governor Bello influenced security agencies to target her and challenges him to bring further defamation charges if he wishes. The senator also highlighted rising violence and disappearances in Kogi State.
