Korean Police Deploy 160 Officers to Guard Ex-Coach Hong Myung-bo After Death Threats
South Korea’s Incheon Metropolitan Police have announced they will send 160 riot and airport officers to secure Incheon Airport when the national football team returns. This follows online death threats against coach Hong Myung-bo after his resignation over a group-stage World Cup exit and criticism from the president. According to local reports, an anonymous post vowed to "go to Incheon Airport and kill Hong Myung-bo on the day of his return." In response, police have also assigned 25 special security guards and warned they will act firmly against any illegal acts, including object-throwing. A police statement said officers will be deployed “to prevent safety accidents during the entry process” and ensure the coach’s protection. The measure reflects rising concerns over fan hostility following back-to-back early World Cup departures under Hong’s leadership.
